Tirupati is the base for the Venkateswara temple at Tirumala, one of the most visited pilgrimage sites in the world. Around it has grown a large trade in hotels, private lodges, cab and bus operators, and package organisers who handle darshan-day logistics for families arriving by train at Tirupati or Renigunta and by air at Tirupati airport.
Many pilgrims come from Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and further north, so the same enquiry arrives in several languages. Rooms are booked around darshan dates, often at short notice, and a lot of this still happens over phone calls and WhatsApp.
