Native vs Cross-Platform
Native apps are built separately for iOS and Android in each platform's own language. Cross-platform apps use one codebase — React Native or Flutter — for both. Cross-platform typically costs 40–50% less to build and maintain.
Cross-platform is the right default for most business apps. One codebase means one set of features to build, one set of bugs to fix, and roughly half the ongoing maintenance. The performance gap that made this a genuine debate a decade ago has largely closed for typical app workloads.
Native still wins where the app is unusually demanding — heavy graphics, sustained camera or sensor processing, deep platform integration — or when you need a brand-new OS feature the day it ships.
Why it matters
This decision sets roughly half your build cost and most of your ongoing cost. Choosing native for an app that doesn't need it is the most expensive avoidable mistake in mobile.
