MVP (Minimum Viable Product)
An MVP is the smallest version of a product that delivers real value to real users, built to test whether the idea works before investing in the full version.
The word doing the work is viable. An MVP is not a broken version of the product — it's a complete, working solution to a narrower problem. One core workflow done properly beats six done badly, because only the first can be judged.
The discipline is deciding in advance what the MVP is meant to prove and what result would change your mind. Without that, an MVP becomes v1 with features missing, and nobody learns anything from it.
Why it matters
It's the difference between spending a small budget to find out whether the idea works and spending a large one to find out it doesn't.
