What an app for the UAE has to get right
A few things differ from an app built for India, and each is decided before the build starts. The points below are what to ask us about and what to confirm with your own accountant or lawyer; none of it is legal advice.
- Payments: UPI and Razorpay do not apply. Checkout is by card and wallets such as Apple Pay, and buy now, pay later providers such as Tabby and Tamara operate in the UAE. Gateways used in the region include Telr, PayTabs and Network International, and we integrate the one your bank or acquirer supports.
- Language: English and Arabic in one app, with the Arabic screens laid out right to left. Your customers pick the language, and your price list or menu is entered in both.
- Personal data: the federal law is Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021 on the Protection of Personal Data, in force from 2 January 2022. It asks for consent as the usual basis for processing and has rules for sending data outside the UAE. Financial free zones such as DIFC and ADGM have their own regimes. We build with these in mind, ask where your servers should sit, and your lawyer confirms what applies to your business.
- VAT: the Federal Tax Authority administers VAT. A tax invoice shows the words Tax Invoice, the supplier's Tax Registration Number, a sequential invoice number and the supply details. The app's invoices and receipts follow the layout your accountant gives us.
Working across the UAE and India calendars
India (UTC+5:30) is 1 hour 30 minutes ahead of the UAE (UTC+4), and neither moves its clocks, so the gap is the same all year. A call at 10:00 am in Dubai is 11:30 am in India.

With automation: The order message is read into product and quantity lines against your catalogue, and the clerk confirms the lines instead of typing them.
Supplier invoices checked for the basics
Today: The bookkeeper scans a pile of supplier invoices and finds out at month end that some have no Tax Registration Number or no invoice number.
