Is Wix actually bad for SEO?+
No — that reputation is a few years out of date. Wix and Squarespace both handle the fundamentals properly now: titles, meta descriptions, sitemaps, mobile rendering, HTTPS. The ceiling is real but it's higher than people claim. Where you feel it is page speed under a heavy template, and control over technical details like rendering, structured data and URL architecture when you're fighting for a competitive term. For a local business with little competition, a builder can rank perfectly well.
Can I just hire someone to build me a better Wix site?+
You can, and it's a legitimate middle path — a designer working inside Wix will beat your own first attempt substantially. You're still on the platform's speed profile and still renting, but you skip the build cost. If your constraint is budget rather than capability, that's a reasonable place to land.
What happens to my site if I stop paying Wix?+
It goes offline. You can export your text and images, but the site itself — the design, layout and functionality — does not come with you, because it only exists inside their editor. Meaningfully, and it's measurable rather than a matter of opinion — run both through PageSpeed Insights. Builder sites typically load a large JavaScript bundle before rendering much of anything; a static Next.js page ships HTML first. We build to 90+ PageSpeed with green Core Web Vitals as a requirement, not an aspiration. Speed is a ranking factor and, more importantly, a conversion factor on mobile.
Can you move my Squarespace content over?+
Yes, and the redirect mapping is the part that matters. We crawl the existing site, preserve the URL structure where it's sensible, and 301 every URL that has to change. Done properly, a migration is invisible in your analytics. Done carelessly, it costs you a third of your organic traffic on launch day.
